2024 has been a busy year for Tandem Energy. We are proud to announce that we are recertifying for B Corp membership. We are already a B Corp member and there are a surprising number of organisations who reach out to us for help because they see that we are a B Corp and rightly conclude that we are serious about ethical business choices and effecting change for good. It’s a long, laborious process and we hope that by May we will be approved for the next 3 years.
Speaking of certification, we are also renewing our Climate Active certification as well as doing the legwork to help several clients achieve this certification too. This is where effective data management becomes important. If you would like to read more about data management, check out this old blog post.
We continue to work extensively with local councils including:
- Energy and resource recovery assessments to help small businesses in the City of Adelaide discover ways to save energy and reduce emissions associated with energy use and avoid sending waste to landfill.
- Sustainability assessments to provide small businesses in the City of Marion with an overview of their progress in energy efficiency and recommend positive sustainability measures.
- We helped several councils apply for Community Energy Upgrades Fund grants, to help make their facilities more energy efficient, cut their emissions and reduce their energy bills.
- Energy audits and project implementation for several councils, on aquatic centres, office buildings and community buildings.
- Solar system monitoring to ensure ongoing performance efficiency of existing solar systems.
Some of our other interesting projects in 2024 included:
-
With the opening of the SA Government Small Business Energy Efficiency Grants late last year we successfully helped clients win almost $90,000 in grants to make energy efficiency improvements such as installing new air conditioners, blinds and fans, solar systems and new electric hot water systems. Sign up for our newsletter if you want to be the first to hear about any new grants coming up.
Climate Action training for The Barossa Council
- We did a comprehensive energy audit for a large multi-story public building in Perth, and we did one for a small country pub in northern NSW (amongst plenty of others).
- Supporting an ethical bank to improve energy efficiency and resource circularity in their national branch refurbishment program.
- Developing and delivering corporate training packages on subjects such as Workplace Climate Action, Climate Reporting, and Climate Risk Readiness.
- Solar feasibility studies to determine whether it’s possible to install a solar system, where, and how big it should be.
- EV charger feasibility studies to discover if it’s possible to install EV charger stations, where and how much it will cost, and then assessing tenders to recommend the best option forward.
And, not as exciting, but important and necessary, we compiled a heap of annual compliance reports for ESCOSA verifying that our clients are appropriately managing their large solar systems.

Energy efficiency workshop at One Planet Market
On top of all this, Rachel still found time to be a presenter and panellist at Small Business Week, the Regional Development SA Annual Summit, and Future Energy Week pitching our new tool the Net Zero Navigator. She also delivered community energy efficiency workshops with Tom for Sustainability Saturday at Tea Tree Gully, One Planet Market at Payneham, and hosted a drop-in session for CitySwitch in Adelaide CBD.
